Barmak Heshmat

Barmak Heshmat is a seasoned individual in the XR industry, currently serving as the CEO of BRELYON, a groundbreaking team focused on innovative display technologies. With a background as the head of optics at Meta Augmented Reality, and prior to the rebranding to Meta and the surge in popularity of the Metaverse, he has a strong foundation in the field. Heshmat's professional journey includes being a former research scientist at MIT Media Lab and the founder of the Imaginarium of Technology initiative.

His technical expertise spans various areas including technology conception, near-eye displays, optics, photonics, computational imaging, ultrafast imaging, nanomaterials, and light-matter interactions. Barmak Heshmat's passion for advancing technology is evident through his extensive educational background. He pursued postdoctoral studies in photonics at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering, as well as a Master of Science in Optics/Optical Sciences from Isfahan University of Technology.

In terms of organizational experience, Heshmat has held key positions in renowned institutions. He was the Founder CEO at BRELYON, an Invited Speaker at TED Conferences, the Head of Optics at Meta Co., and a PI-Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, he founded the Imaginarium of Technology and has shared his insights as a speaker at various TED events. His notable roles also include serving as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at MIT and engaging as a Ph.D. Researcher at the University of Victoria.
