Anne Carlisle, an accomplished artist turned academic leader, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Falmouth University. Born in Northern Ireland, Carlisle attended Ballyclare High School and pursued her passion for art by completing a diploma in Foundation Art & Design at the University Polytechnic, Belfast, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art with First Class Honours at Ulster University. Carlisle furthered her academic pursuits with a Master's degree at the University of the Arts, London, before transitioning into academia.

Professor Carlisle's journey in academia has been long and varied. She began as a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art and Media at Gwent College of Higher Education before moving to the University of Wales College, Newport. Carlisle's contributions at the university were colossal as she progressed from the Head of Field in Interactive Arts to the Head of the Department of Art & Design and eventually being appointed as the Dean of School of Art, Media, and Design. Carlisle's exceptional career in academia continued as she became Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) and then Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wales, Newport.

Carlisle's strong eye for art deepened her passion for the publication industry, where she directed her own publishing business, Circa Publications. Alongside her academic pursuits, Carlisle has been an external examiner and advisor for many universities and colleges.

Professor Carlisle's expertise spans various fields, including art, education, and academic leadership. Her skills and interests include fine art, media, interactive arts, publishing, and academic administration.
