Joseph Mucheru

Joseph Mucheru E.G.H. is the current Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, formerly known as the Ministry of ICT. He played a pivotal role in establishing Google's presence in Africa and was the first Sub-Saharan Africa employee at Google. Prior to joining Google, he co-founded Wananchi Online in 1999, where he held various roles including Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer.

Joseph Mucheru is also the Chairman of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), a specialized agency of the African Union (AU), and a global board member of UNICEF Generation Unlimited. He is an alumnus of the Stanford Executive Programme from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and holds a BSc in Economics & Computer Science from City University London.

Throughout his career, Joseph Mucheru has held key positions at various organizations including Google Inc, Wananchi Online, Tellecomunications Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK), and Internet Solutions (IS). He has also been involved in advisory roles at GiveDirectly, Mpesa Foundation Academy, and afb - all you can be.

In addition to his professional engagements, Joseph Mucheru is a member of the Africa Leadership Network, The National Prayer Breakfast, and the East African Business Summit. He has been recognized for his contributions with prestigious honors such as 'Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear' (M.B.S) in 2010 and 'The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya' (E.G.H.) in 2017.
