NYSE Technologies is the world's leading provider of end-to-end electronic trading solutions.I performed Design and Engineering of the network within NYSE European Liquidity Centre. A new build state of the art 70,000 square metre Data Centre located in Basildon, UK, which included Customer and Provider networks to support third party colocation with the exchange. The environment was based on Juniper EX/QFX/MX and Force10 (Dell) products.I designed and rolled out a multi-site Juniper/Cisco network to support the organisations corporate telephony based on Avaya VoIP and an Aruba Wireless LAN.I produced the network design for a new Operations Centre of Excellence for NYSE Technologies located in Belfast, requiring the consolidation of several other premises into this new facility and I performed the relocation of the NYSE LIFFE continuity of business infrastructure from IBM, to the NYSE European Liquidity CentreThroughout the course of the role I produced high and low-level design documentation, network schematics and QA/Test plans. I carried out vendor negotiations resulting in technical recommendations and compiled project bills of materials and cost analysis. Within this consultancy role I took ownership of governance rules and operating cycle for the capacity management of global WAN services across all of Thomson Reuters strategic networks. I conducted development and delivery of capacity reporting capabilities to TR internal product groups and stakeholders.I formulated and agreed mutual capacity management practices with vendors and monitored adherence to these practices. I brokered the relationship between WAN vendors and internal stakeholders on all issues concerning WAN capacity. I defined infrastructure capacity forecast reporting capabilities for budget cycle reviews with product line portfolio managers, technical service managers and line of business owners. I established a strategy for consolidating all network capacity/utilisation data from multiple data sources within a common capacity management and forecasting database, resulting in cost savings, budgeting efficiencies and improved network performance.

SEGRO is a FTSE 150 Commercial REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) and owner of a large European commercial property portfolio.Within my role at SEGRO, I was the Technical Design Authority for all network design and deployment activities, which included decisions relating to the deployment of a European MPLS VPN; driving improvements in convergence, fault-tolerance and overall network performance. The monitoring of vendor conformance to agreed service level commitments, vendor management and network capacity planning activities.I designed and executed a number of highly available Enterprise LAN topologies across all of SEGRO's UK and 19 continental European offices.I acted as the lead technical contributor on a Disaster Recovery infrastructure project, establishing RTO's (Recovery Time Objectives), conducting a vendor selection process and providing tiered network design options.I formulated new IP addressing, device name and numbering schemas and related standards documentation.I carried out a full redesign and deployment of the corporate Internet perimeter which included firewalls, web proxy, content filtering, intrusion prevention and DDoS mitigation .I designed and deployed an IPSec VPN for connectivity to low-tier branch sites and SSL VPN for corporate remote access with authentication.I put in place a centrally managed secure wireless LAN solution which was deployed across all European sites and throughout the HQ campus.I put in place an iSCSI SAN to support the companies new virtualised server farmsI deployed RADIUS/AAA, Syslog, Flow Collection, SNMP Element and Configuration Management to support the environments that were deployed.Due to a need for increased bandwidth in locations where circuit upgrades were deemed to be cost prohibitive, I designed, piloted and subsequently rolled out a WAN caching/compression solution resulting in immediate improvements in traffic visibility and better utilisation of available bandwidth resources.

Acting as a Technical Design Authority and Consultant within a small global team supporting one of the world’s largest telecoms outsourcing programs for Reuters, my role incorporated the capture and qualification of customer requirements and the formulation of network solutions. I was responsible for the development of technical solutions at both the High and Low level design phases and contributed to the development of processes to increase productivity and simplify operations.As a resource within Keystone program my area of responsibility was in the architecture of network solutions for the distribution of services and migration of existing services from Reuters various legacy distribution networks on to BT’s Global IP MPLS platform.Each of Reuters market data and transactional products being migrated onto BT's platform required solutions that optimised performance and resilience.A key objective was to facilitate the rationalisation of Reuters 220 Global Data Centre’s down to 30 through consolidation within dedicated BT facilities, thus achieving significant cost savings for the client. I played an active role in this objective working on aspects of the Terrestrial PoP design serving Reuters Real-time IDN network amongst other projects.An additional function of this role was to provide a technical pre-sales and post-sales support function as a subject matter expert both to internal account teams, operational support groups and externally with the client, my peers within Reuters being Reuters Technical Architecture team.

ICAP is the world’s premier voice and electronic inter-dealer broker, delivering specialist intermediary brokerage services to trading professionals in the wholesale financial markets. The ICAP Architecture and Projects team based in both the UK and US maintained responsibility for all network design projects within ICAP. The numerous projects on which I worked during my tenure were as follows:As a network architect within ICAP I performed a redesign of the ICAP EMEA Internet Perimeter along with a migration of ICAP’s UK continuity facility into Sungard LTC. I contributed to the redesign of the ICAP EMEA client delivery network and carried out design and PoC for a replacement global WAN from a 3rd party Service Provider. I performed performance testing of IP Multicast and Class of Service over the Service Provider network using Spirent SmartBits test equipmentAs part of a network improvement initiative I consolidated dual OSPF process into a single process within the ICAP UK core network and made improvements to route summarisation and firewall rule base optimisations.

BT Radianz was a leading extranet provider of secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity to the global financial community. The company's shared market infrastructure was a neutral platform that provided turnkey access to a broad array of pre-trade, trade, and post-trade applications from leading content and service providers across the straight-through processing (STP) chain. The customer solutions were the conduit between Engineering, Operations and Product Management teams and were responsible for the qualification of opportunities and the development of technical solutions to meet bespoke customer requirements. A core function was to define and document high and low-level solution designs and to obtain both commercial and technical approvals from internal stakeholders prior to the deployment phase. The role required me to identify and present any issues relating to sales opportunities and to provide pre/post-sales technical support to customers, sales and to other departments through training and presentation of concepts relating to Radianz portfolio of products and services. The role required the continued development and utilisation of appropriate processes, forums and documentation in support of sales opportunities. An aim was to identify trends and to work alongside the Product Management team in the development of new products/features and early adopter solutions. In order to carry out this role effectively it was necessary to maintain a continued understanding of the challenges specific to the Financial Marketplace; specifically financial industry technologies.
