John Chan, a Certified Financial Planner™ and partner at Independence Wealth Group (IWG), has an extensive background in financial planning and education. Born and raised in San Antonio, he began his financial career after the 2008-2009 financial crisis and has been helping clients ever since. John graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin in 2005 and a MBA with a Concentration in Finance from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2011.

At IWG, John specializes in retirement planning, investments, personal finance, insurance planning, and financial education. He takes a client-centric approach and teaches clients basic financial concepts to help them actively participate in their financial planning. John works with different companies to find suitable products and services for each client's objectives. John is a philanthropist and has contributed to charitable organizations such as the American Diabetes Association and Financial Planning Days held by the Financial Planners Association and the CFP® Board.

In his free time, John enjoys reading, research, and spending time with his family. He is a former Vice President at Jefferson and Franklin Financial and a former General Supervisor at MedLab International.
