Banker White
Banker White is a talented filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist who resides in San Francisco. His approach to large-scale social issues is one that is celebrated for its intimate and compassionate humanism. White has directed numerous documentaries that have been well-received by critics and audiences alike. One of his most notable works is The Genius of Marian, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was broadcast on PBS's POV series. The film earned recognition for its unique approach to aging and disease. Additionally, he co-directed and produced Survivors, which was nominated for both a Peabody and an Emmy Award. White's filmography also includes Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, a documentary that won multiple awards at various film festivals.
Aside from directing documentary films, White founded the WeOwnTV Freetown Media Center in Sierra Leone. The center is dedicated to collaborative storytelling and filmmaking, and it has been supported by various global organizations such as Creative Capital, Freedom to Create, and The Bertha Foundation. White is also the Executive Director of Mirabel Pictures and the former Director of WeOwnTV.
White's creative skills have earned him support from several major organizations, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Tribeca Film Institute, and the Fledgling Fund. He is also an accomplished academic, having earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine and Studio Arts from Middlebury College and an MFA from California College of the Arts.
