Nicholas Sweeting is a civil servant with extensive professional experience in policy development, risk management, smart cities, and marketing. He is currently the Head of Central Assurance Team at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), where he oversees DWP's public bodies' compliance with Cabinet Office spend controls and HM Treasury's Managing Public Money guidelines. Nicholas has a first-class degree in English and Russian from the University of Leeds and a Diploma in Russian Language from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU).

Prior to his current role, Nicholas managed a team of policy advisers in developing and implementing policy on defined contribution pensions. He was also a Project Lead for Smart Cities at the Department for International Trade (DIT), where he connected domestic firms of all sizes with opportunities overseas and spoke at venues around Europe on the UK smart cities offer. He has also worked as a Policy Adviser in Innovation and Skills in Housebuilding at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and as a Coordinator for Parliamentary Questions at the Department for Education.

Nicholas started his career in the civil service as a Ministerial Communications Coordinator at the Department for Education, serving three ministers under two secretaries of state. He spent most of his 20s living and working in Russia, where he worked as a Content Manager at Reksoft, a Marketing Manager at i-Free Innovations, and a Product Manager at The IMC Group Ltd. He also owned The Sweeting Agency, a marketing consultancy firm.
