Dr. Awad Mataria is the Director of Universal Health Coverage/Health Systems at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO).12 He has over 15 years of experience in health system strengthening, health economics, and health financing.2 Dr. Mataria holds a PhD in Health Economics and a Master's degree in Health System Analysis, following his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.2
In his role, Dr. Mataria has been supporting countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to reform their health financing systems and move towards universal health coverage for the past decade.2 His areas of expertise include:
