Atsuko Toda

Atsuko Toda is a professional with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology specializing in multi-cultural societies. She also holds a Diploma in Developmental Studies from Cambridge University and a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from the International Christian University (ICU) with a focus on rural finance. Atsuko is deeply passionate about cultural diversity, international relations, and promoting understanding between different cultures, backgrounds, and people.
In 1997, Atsuko Toda joined the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and began her journey working in South and East Asia across countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Laos, and Vietnam. She engaged in fieldwork in Nepal with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) from 2000-2004. Her roles included Country Manager for Vietnam and Laos at IFAD, where she was instrumental in developing projects in rural communities emphasizing food security and market access through effective project management strategies.
From 2012 to 2016, Atsuko transitioned to Africa where she served as the Country Manager for Nigeria at IFAD, overseeing a portfolio of investments in rural development and fostering partnerships with the private sector to enhance market access for farmers. Since 2016, Atsuko has been contributing her expertise as the Director of Agriculture Finance and Rural Development at the African Development Bank. In her current role, she leads a dedicated team focused on promoting private sector investments to drive agricultural transformation. Her work mainly centers around supporting innovative financing for agriculture SMEs, climate disaster risk financing, Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, and making direct investments in agribusiness.
Prior to her position at the African Development Bank, Atsuko Toda held the role of Senior Director for Entrepreneurship Development in Pan-African Programs at the Mastercard Foundation. Her extensive experience in various high-profile organizations showcases her expertise and commitment to rural development, agricultural finance, and promoting private sector investment in agriculture.
