Anna Marie Trester

Anna Marie Trester is a Course Instructor in the Department of Linguistics at Boise State University, where she began her role in January 2023. She is the inaugural instructor for the career readiness course, LING 482, which focuses on helping students develop professional portfolios tailored to their career interests.12
Dr. Trester has a rich background in linguistics and applied sociolinguistics. She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Linguistics from New York University, along with a B.A. in English from the University of Arizona.1 Before her current position, she directed the MA in Language and Communication program at Georgetown University and has taught at several institutions, including Howard University and the University of Maryland.12
In addition to her teaching, Dr. Trester is the founder of Career Linguist, a resource aimed at bridging linguistics and professional development. She has authored books such as Bringing Linguistics to Work and Employing Linguistics, and she conducts workshops on narrative and communication strategies.12 Her research interests include improvisation, performance, narrative, and the intersection of language with identity and social media.1
Dr. Trester is also associated with the FrameWorks Institute, where she has contributed to research on effective communication regarding social issues.2 Her work emphasizes the importance of storytelling in organizational contexts and professional self-presentation.
