Ashvin Bashyam

Education and Early Career

Bashyam earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he focused on developing portable magnetic resonance sensors for chronic disease diagnosis and enhancing drug delivery systems to the brain through implanted devices. Prior to his PhD, he completed his undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked on innovative medical imaging techniques for cancer staging.12

Professional Experience

Before joining Checkpoint Capital, Bashyam led R&D strategy at Ensoma, a biotechnology company specializing in gene-editing therapies. He also worked as an Associate Director within the 4:59 Initiative at 5AM Ventures, where he contributed to the strategy and operations of early-stage biotech companies, including Ensoma.14 His entrepreneurial efforts were recognized when he co-developed a software platform called Indicator, aimed at aligning scientific advancements with treatable diseases, which won the 2018 Newman Entrepreneurial Initiative Fund Prize.1
