Arnoud de Wilt is a Consultant Micropollutants & Wastewater Technology at Royal HaskoningDHV.1 He is an expert in water treatment technologies, particularly in the removal of micropollutants from wastewater. De Wilt has been involved in the development of Aurea®, an innovative and sustainable technology for removing micro-pollutants from water.14
Prior to his current role, de Wilt conducted research at Wageningen University, where he focused on micropollutant removal in algal treatment systems fed with source-separated wastewater streams.2 He completed his PhD on this topic, defending his thesis on February 2, 2018.3
De Wilt played a key role in the Aurea technology project, which won the prestigious Vernufteling award for ingenious engineering in 2024.45 As the Aurea lead at Royal HaskoningDHV, he has been instrumental in bringing this technology from academic research to practical application over the course of ten years.5
His work contributes significantly to addressing the growing problem of pharmaceutical residues, hormones, antibiotics, and crop protection agents in water systems, which pose threats to aquatic ecosystems and drinking water sources.14
