    Arao Ameny, a Ugandan native from Lira in northern Uganda, is a seasoned print and online journalist specializing in African communities and immigrant issues.

    She holds a Master's degree in Journalism and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, along with minors in International Relations and Communications.

    Ameny is the Founder and Executive Director of the Association of African Journalists and Writers (AAJW), a platform designed to unite African journalists, foster networking, collaboration, and enhance reporting on Africa and African immigrant communities in North America.

    With a background as the Social Media Editor/ Communications Assistant at the New York City Independent Budget, she significantly contributed to the development of social media strategies, print and online publications, and communication-related projects.

    Previously, Arao served as the Social Media Editor/ Writer at UN Africa Renewal, a publication from the Africa Section of the United Nations Department of Public Information, where she substantially augmented social media presence and engagement, notably increasing traffic to the website.

    Ameny has participated in various roles, including being a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Baltimore and holding positions at organizations like the Coro New York Leadership Center, Sahara Reporters, and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, among others.
