Anna Careborg is a prominent figure in Swedish media who has held several key positions at Svenska Dagbladet (SvD), one of Sweden's leading newspapers. She served as the CEO, Editor-in-Chief, and Publisher (Vd, chefredaktör och ansvarig utgivare) of Svenska Dagbladet for nearly five years, from 2019 to early 2024.135
Careborg's career at SvD spans almost two decades, beginning in 2004 when she joined as a reporter.1 She climbed the ranks, taking on various leadership roles before assuming the top position in 2019.3 During her tenure, Careborg led SvD through significant transformations, focusing on digital growth and quality journalism.13
Under her leadership, SvD experienced a strong influx of new digital subscribers and positioned itself as a leading news provider, particularly in politics and business news.15 Careborg also oversaw the newspaper's coverage of major global events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the storming of the U.S. Capitol, and the war in Europe.1
In a significant career move, Careborg announced in August 2023 that she would be leaving SvD to take on a new role at Sveriges Television (SVT), Sweden's national public television broadcaster.24 She is set to become the News and Sports Director at SVT, a newly created position where she will be the top executive overseeing all news and sports staff, starting January 1, 2024.24
Throughout her career, Careborg has been recognized for her digital expertise and leadership in the media industry. She has also held positions on the boards of the Swedish news agency TT, the Swedish Media Publishers' Association (Tidningsutgivarna), and Utgivarna.2
