Andy Zaayenga

Andy Zaayenga is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in business development and consulting within the life sciences industry, specifically focusing on laboratory automation and medical devices for drug discovery and biobanking.

Andy has held various key roles in companies such as SmarterLab, HighRes Biosolutions, Tecan REMP, TekCel, Zymark, and Sybron, where he has contributed significantly to system integration, sample management, innovative sample storage solutions, and pioneering advancements in laboratory automation.

In addition to his corporate experience, Andy has been deeply involved in several prestigious associations and committees, including serving as the President of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER), Executive Chair of the Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (LRIG), member of the Editorial Board for Current Research in Drug Discovery (CRDD) and Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS), among many others.

With a strong academic background having studied at Rutgers University and a track record of multiple patents and innovations in processes and devices, Andy Zaayenga is a recognized authority and thought leader in the field of life sciences, particularly in laboratory automation, biobanking, and drug discovery.

Currently, Andy holds the position of Managing Director at SmarterLab and continues to contribute to the industry through various roles in advisory boards, program committees, and editorial positions.
