Leading engineering teams building Starburst Galaxy, a fully managed analytics service based on the open source Trino query engine. Leading teams which have built features across many functional areas including application security - access control, SSO (single sign-on), and service accounts with SAML, SCIM, and OAuth; data discovery; web-based query editor; and data source connectors.

• Manage as many as 3 teams totaling up to 15 engineers with levels ranging from staff to junior and onboard 10+ engineers to my teams
• Interview 150+ candidates, update job descriptions, and work closely with recruiting to get the best candidates into our funnel and get offers accepted
• Coordinate closely with PM and UX to ensure we do the highest priority work and deliver value incrementally
• Work in remote environment with colleagues in Americas and Europe, dealing effectively with time zone challenges
• Coach engineers to level up their performance, leading some to promotions
• Help scale processes as the engineering team for my product grew by over 2x in a year, including spinning up new teams, handing off teams to new managers, systematizing interviews, and improving onboarding documents
• Act as incident manager on call to coordinate incident response and ensure customer issues are resolved quickly

Managerial:
• Launched two new engineering teams: allocated engineers to teams based on skills & inclinations; worked with stakeholders to define scope and success criteria; got buy-in on team practices; helped divide work into actionable pieces.
• Helped an engineering team deal with its organizational challenges: observed team workings closely, and then got buy-in to institute process changes one piece at a time, including efficient daily standup meetings, better-specified tickets, and estimation of ticket complexity.

• Worked with higher management. Kept them informed of issues I was handling, and asked promptly when I needed guidance or an issue required their intervention.

Technical:
• Wrote code across several web applications and all levels of the technology stack, using Ruby, Rails, React, Postgres, Git, GitHub, SQL.
• Worked with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand and clarify suggested features, propose improvements or appropriate simplifications, and pushed back on requests as appropriate.
• Reviewed code written by other engineers, providing suggestions on correctness and clarity.
• Dealt with complex medical domain models.
