Andrew Philp
Group Leader at Garvan Institute of Medical Research
Andrew Philp is an internationally recognized expert in mitochondrial metabolism, with a particular focus on skeletal muscle wasting disorders such as ageing, muscular dystrophy, and mitochondrial myopathy.1 He is currently the Head of the Biology of Ageing Program and convenor of the Centre for Healthy Ageing at the Centenary Institute.1 Prior to this, he was a Group Leader at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research from 2018 to 2022.3
Dr. Philp has an impressive academic background, having completed post-doctoral training at the University of Dundee (UK) and University of California Davis (USA) before establishing his independent research laboratory in 2012 at the University of Birmingham (UK).1 His research has been well-funded, with $10.1 million AUD in tier 1 grant funding as CIA and $26.4 million AUD as AI.1
