Andrew Madoff was an American financier known for his role in exposing the financial crimes of his father, Bernie Madoff, who orchestrated one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history. Born on April 8, 1966, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. Andrew worked at his father's firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, but was involved in a division separate from the fraudulent activities. He and his brother Mark were pivotal in alerting authorities about their father's illegal operations after he confessed to them on December 10, 2008, just before his arrest the following day.23
Andrew Madoff was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, which went into remission but returned in 2011. He attributed the recurrence to stress related to the fallout from his father's crimes. He passed away on September 3, 2014, while undergoing treatment.3
In terms of his professional endeavors post-scandal, Andrew Madoff served as the Chief Executive Officer of Madoff Energy Holdings LLC, a company involved in oil and gas exploration and production based in Texas.14 His estate was valued at approximately $16 million at the time of his death, though legal battles over his father's estate impacted the distribution of these assets to his family.3
