Full-stack web developer at OHRI: mHealth Research Team (CANImmunize)

Built large internal full-stack web application from the ground up, using primarily React, node.js, Typescript, Neo4j, AWS EC2, EFS, ActiveDirectory, and NGinx (and later Apache). Continuously integrated requested changes and feature additions from primary users. Gathered requirements from users.

Co-designed database schema for Neo4j, wrote all interaction scripts for web backend.

Migrated database from MariaDB to Neo4j (with 3 other developers).

Build extensive data visualizations for simulation data output.

Fully configured and maintained a Jupyterhub (JH) instance on AWS EC2. Application was hosted in a docker container on the instance, and locked down by a VPN and Microsoft ActiveDirectory. Managed an Ubuntu Linux system on the Jupyterhub instance, with over 60 users sharing the system. This required extensive Linux system administration work and bash scripting, the creation of an extensive set of custom Bash utilities to facilitate common use cases for users, and maintaining a large collection of common and custom Python packages across all users. Instance was built with 12 separate kernels: Python 2, Python 3, Julia, Octave/MATLab, JavaScript, C, TypeScript, R, Rust, Fortran, Ruby, and Go.

Senior Software Engineer

Building & maintaining web version of CANImmunize (http://www.canimmunize.ca/auth/en/login): an official Public Health Agency of Canada-endorsed app for improving vaccination coverage by replacing "immunization cards" with a digital variant, and providing a user-specific dynamically-generated schedule for upcoming vaccinations.

Mentoring new hires & co-op students (approximately 5). Teaching junior hires Javascript, Typescript, CSS, HTML5, etc.

Building internal webapps to allow non-technical public health experts to:
1) Test the vaccination scheduling engine
2) Modify official vaccination schedules

Creating microservices & backend components used by both the CANImmunize mobile and web apps. This included building the authentication service used by the official backend server for handling user accounts and immunization records (Note: passed a penetration test on the 1st try).

Co-running organization devops, including work with Jenkins, git & Github, and Docker. Setting up cloud services (AWS & Digital Ocean).

This involves but is not limited to selecting web technologies used, setting best practices & development guidelines (including creating the code style guide), making certain design and functionality decisions, pitching changes and added features to higher-level managers, setting and negotiating timelines, acting as "go-to" for issues relating to web technologies, and presenting completed web apps & prototypes to upper-management and health officials.

Worked on Ruby on Rails webapp for allowing client companies to create and manage corporate gift card programs and promotions.

My work centred around adding features and fixing bugs for various components of their technology stack:
1) A dynamic web frontend, built with numerous frontend and templating technologies, such as ERB, SCSS, Bootstrap, simple_form, Coffeescript, etc.;
2) An extensive database layer (MySQL, managed through ActiveRecord);
3) A vast series of REST API microservices for delivering JSON data to a wide range of different consuming technologies (web clients, mobile apps, payment processing devices, etc.), constructed using Rails Router and Grape;
4) A continuous integration system run through GitLab (on which I did fairly extensive work)

I also rebuilt and completed a dormant Android application for mobile-based gift card handling (required by a company client).

Includes frontend development, backend development, construction of build tooling, database handling, and product deployment. 

I created and integrated the technology stack myself.
