Andrew Dempsey is a senior sustainability manager at REI, where he leads the company's sustainable operations initiatives. With a Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University, Dempsey has extensive experience in sustainability and green building consulting. He brings a unique perspective to his role, having previously worked as a workplace strategist and innovation program manager at Google.
Dempsey's interest in sustainable practices stems from his early career, where he served as a WWOOFer (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) in New Zealand and Australia. He also spent time working in guest services at Kimpton Hotels and as a job captain at McCall Design Group.
Dempsey's educational background includes a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture from the University of Colorado at Boulder and studies at Trinity College-Hartford.
As a senior sustainability manager, Dempsey is responsible for developing and implementing REI's sustainability strategy, ensuring the company meets its goals for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible sourcing. He also works closely with internal teams to educate employees on sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability into the company's culture.
