Andrew Baransky

Andrew Baransky is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) with a Bachelor of Science in Logistics and Intermodal Transportation. He is a licensed Deck Officer with extensive experience sailing Coastwise and internationally on various vessels. Additionally, he serves as a Commissioned Officer in the Navy Reserve.
Andrew has a background in the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) where he notably served as the Sea Year Liaison at USMMA. He is recognized as a subject matter expert in shipboard culture and sexual assault prevention within the maritime industry, offering valuable insights to U.S. flag shipping companies and the Maritime Administration. He played a key role in various committees and teams at USMMA, including the Maritime Administration’s Shipboard Climate and Compliance Team, the Deputy Superintendent’s Sea Year Committee, and the Academy’s Strategic Planning Committee.
As a qualified trainer, Andrew has conducted training sessions on crucial topics like Healthy Relationships, Retaliation, Command Climate and Culture, Human Relations at Sea, and Bystander Intervention for students, faculty, and staff at USMMA. He has also taken on leadership roles such as serving as the Interim Program Director of SAPRO while fulfilling his duties as the Sea Year Liaison. Andrew has been involved in producing high-level reports for prominent external agencies like Congress, the Office of the Inspector General, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Andrew is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion within the USMMA community. He has spearheaded initiatives such as organizing the academy's first LGBTQ awareness event, establishing the first LGBTQ Alumni Panel, and founding the Academy’s inaugural Gay-Straight Alliance. He is deeply passionate about fostering diversity, inclusion, and healthy work cultures.
Currently pursuing an MBA at New York University Stern School of Business, Andrew Baransky continues to be actively engaged in providing training and speaking engagements on topics related to diversity, inclusion, workplace dynamics, and instigating positive cultural shifts.
