Engineer, researcher, data scientist. I designed and implemented data-driven products, and also architected and built the underlying data infrastructure to make these products possible.

I researched novel machine learning algorithms and used them to build new products. I worked directly with our customers and product teams to identify potential use cases for machine learning, and build distributed systems that scale my algorithms to handle millions of web visitors in real-time.I built the backend of Chartbeat's Engaged Headline Testing tool using technologies such as Apache Kafka and Riak. I also developed a novel Thompson sampling model for A/B testing headlines, which optimizes not just for click-through rate but also for behavior after the click (e.g. time on destination page).

Founded the data science team at the Brown Daily Herald, Brown University's daily newspaper. Led a team of data scientists, writers, and designers to publish data visualizations made in HTML/CSS/Javascript, as well as static graphics made in Adobe Illustrator. Handled data analysis for the Brown Daily Herald Student polls, run each semester.

Responsible for sections, office hours, and grading for APMA 2610: Recent Applications of Probability and Statistics, a graduate applied mathematics course taught by Professor Stuart Geman. Topics included graphical models, nonparametric statistics, and large deviations theory.

Researched and implemented machine learning algorithms to track student proficiency for Knewton's adaptive learning engine. Developed novel statistical models to track student proficiency over time using Hidden Markov Models, the Expectation-Maximization algorithm, and Kalman filters.NYC Turing Fellow Class of 2012; worked part-time through junior year of college.

Designed and implemented molecular dynamics algorithms with Professor Richard Strattof the Brown Chemistry Department. Used a novel dynamic programming algorithm to efficiently calculate pathways in high dimensional systems; results were published in "How dominant is the most efficient pathway through the potential energy landscape of a slowly diffusing disordered system?" (cited below).
