As a Product Owner for the new Self-Identification application, I collaborate with the core team, project stakeholders, and the development team to refine and prioritize product development work in an agile, cross-functional environment. 

I am a key contributor to the implementation strategy of the new Self-Identification application and translate the strategy to communications, engagement, and change management teams. 

I also consult on service design, modern digital product development and employment equity policy and programs for the organization and broader public service.

Human-centred Design Lead

Led the project management, qualitative research and product design for the Self-Identification Modernization project on a cross-functional, agile team. I conducted regular research and engagement with people who represent a significant scope of diversity, most notably, people who identify as an employment equity-deserving group, HR professionals, data analysts, systems operators, and policy/program owners across the federal public service.

I contributed to a final report for the recommendations made to the Chief Human Resource Officer on a top priority to improve the outcomes of self-identification for employment equity. 

As a founding team member, I facilitated a co-development process for our operational practices. These practices informed the hybrid collaboration tools that TBS recommended to the broader federal public service for adapting to an ever-changing remote work situation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I participated in several TBS communities that support diversity, inclusion and employment equity: the Public Service Pride Business Intelligence Action Committee, 2SLGBTQIA+ Network, Black Employee Network, and Persons with Disabilities Network.

Human-Centred Design Lead

I led a small, agile, cross-functional team to develop a Service Design Centre of Excellence service to further digital transformation and to capacity-build during an ever-changing, early-adoption phase of digital transformation for the department. We conducted design research to understand the organization and problems with current approaches to operations and delivery. 

I led the development and implementation strategy of the centre of excellence. This resulted in project plans, establishing priorities, managing the roadmaps, monitoring and evaluation plans based on research and collaboration with stakeholders. I supported the team to achieve quality service design and development deliverables.

I built digital capacity in the organization by consulting with clients on digital and service modernization efforts in the department. I also coached and facilitated stakeholder teams in adopting new digital practices in design thinking and agile methodologies.

Design Operations and Innovation

Code for Canada’s fellowship program embeds digital professionals inside of government, where they can work on projects that matter. Fellows spend 10 months collaborating with their government hosts to design and deliver digital services that work better for residents. The goal of the fellowship is to demonstrate what’s possible (and what's not) when the latest methods in software development, design thinking, user experience research and product management are applied to serving the public. 

I worked with an interdisciplinary team: policy advisor, flight inspector, applications developer, supported by an incredible project panel of leaders at Transport Canada. Our mission was to conduct user research with drone pilots and prototype digital tools to help them fly safely and in accordance with new regulations.

We learned that recreational drone pilots struggle most with figuring out how to conduct new aviation practices in the regulations. Instructions were hard to find--a new industry meant little existing resources on procedures and best practices for safety. But we also found that users needed help to form good judgement, as many of the decisions you make to determine safety requires technical skill and thorough examination. 

Using agile, iterative product development we discovered we with progressive web application technology and more structured information architecture we can make learning how to follow regulations accessible and fun. 

We hope the department will be able to continue developing the product into public beta release where drone operators can start learning about how best to conduct a site survey, the first educational component we built.

User Experience Design Lead

My first design reserach studies with UXperts I shadowed under a leading researcher in the Okanagan, Jocelyn MacDougal. We conducted several usability studies on enterprise products by eBillity. When Jocelyn went on maternity leave, I became the lead researcher at the agency. I conducted several more research studies under the direction of the Founder, Clint Schnee. 

I contributed to designing a UX certification program for blockchain applications. I designed the service delivery, and the standards to be used for evaluation. I also wrote grant proposals for additional development support.

Principal Designer, Researcher

I provided instruction in UX topics such as: usability, user research, human-centred design, heuristic analysis, wireframing/prototyping, basic project management methodologies, participatory/co-design practices, group dynamics, and conflict resolution.
I completed 50 student project design evaluations and client presentations. 
I collaborated with my team to iterate both the Professional and Foundations curriculum, ensuring it's reflective of the industry, and designed in alignment with the RED Learning Method.

UX Instructor, Community Manager

As the Programs and Community Manager I played a key role in the early development of student experience, and social business development. Highlights include designing and operating the Community Partner Program, which saw the delivery of over 500 community projects. I also designed and facilitated our Town Hall service-a weekly school-wide meeting to cover announcements, and cultivate community. I also lead the internal Community and Culture committee, which implemented quarterly internal team building initiatives, and external social giving initiatives. I was an advocate for transitioning into "teal" practices, and am proud to have set a tone in the culture of RED of integrity, transparency, and accessibility.

Instructed introductory UX classes, and facilitated the User Experience Foundations course. Mentored students, and evaluated their class work and final projects.

I managed a portfolio of clients with whom I completed various design projects to re-design websites, mobile applications, and other creative materials. I also provided sales and administrative support to small businesses.
