Allen W. Nelson is the co-founder of t|e General Counsel, a fractional general counsel practice at Taylor English Duma LLP.125 He has been practicing law for over 32 years and has significant experience leading global teams and providing advice to boards of directors, executive management, and investors of both publicly traded and privately held companies.123
Nelson previously served as the General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Administrative Officer of Crawford & Company, one of the world's largest publicly traded claims management firms.3 In this role, he advised the company's Board of Directors and senior management on a wide variety of legal and business issues including mergers and acquisitions, ethics and compliance, litigation matters, government investigations, and negotiations.3
Currently, Nelson serves as the fractional General Counsel for several companies in various industries, including a private equity-owned national retail company, an international family-owned retail company, and an early stage EMS company.3 He is also the Chair of Clark Hill's Fractional General Counsel practice, which he joined when the firm expanded into Atlanta by adding eight lawyers from Taylor English Duma in July 2024.4
Nelson is a senior lecturing fellow at Duke University School of Law, where he teaches an upper-level course on in-house practice.3 He is also the Chair of Board Development of Tech Alpharetta4 and has held leadership positions with several non-profit organizations, including the Atlanta Ballet, Duke University Alumni Association, and Emory University.3
