Alfio Gliozzo

Alfio Gliozzo is an accomplished Principal Researcher at IBM Research AI, specializing in Knowledge Induction. With a vast experience in the field, Alfio is globally recognized as a leader in Knowledge and has made significant contributions to the industry.

Having authored over 100 scientific publications, which include books, papers, and patents, Alfio's expertise is well-respected. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the development of Watson, the IBM system that famously outperformed human champions on Jeopardy!

Alfio pursued his academic journey by obtaining a PhD in Communication Technologies with a focus on Natural Language Processing from Università degli Studi di Trento. Additionally, he holds a Master's degree in Philosophy with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna.

Throughout his career, Alfio has held various key positions within IBM, such as Research Manager in Knowledge Induction and Development Manager in the IBM Watson Group. He has also served in academic roles including as an Adjunct Professor at the Data Science Institute, Columbia University.

Prior to his tenure at IBM, Alfio gained valuable experience working in renowned institutions like the Italian National Research Council and Fondazione Bruno Kessler, where he contributed significantly as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Phd Candidate.
