Alex Wolf
Open-source data infra for biology @Lamin. Created Scanpy & led build-up of Cellarity's compute platform.
Alex Wolf, whose LinkedIn username is falexwolf, is the Co-founder and CEO of Lamin Labs, an open-source data platform for biology.123 Since April 2022, Wolf has been building Lamin to enable both dry- and wetlab scientists.1 They are also a Scientific Advisor at Doloromics and Retro Biosciences, starting in May and April 2022, respectively.124 Additionally, Wolf is a Scientific Advisor for scverse since September 2019.12
Prior to these roles, Alex Wolf held multiple positions:
- Cellarity Wolf was the Senior Director, Head of Scientific Computing (May 2021-January 2022), Director, Head of Applied Machine Learning (March-April 2021), Associate Director, Head of Applied Machine Learning (March 2019-February 2021), Associate Director, Machine Learning (September 2018-February 2019), and Consultant, Machine Learning (May 2018-August 2018) at Cellarity.12 They led the build-up and application of the computational part of Cellarity’s drug discovery platform.13
- Helmholtz Zentrum München Wolf served as an Adjunct Researcher in Machine Learning from October 2018 to December 2022.12 Earlier, they were Team Lead, Machine Learning (September 2017 to August 2018) and a Postdoctoral Researcher, Machine Learning (September 2015 to August 2017).12 During this time, Wolf created Scanpy and PAGA, and co-created anndata.1
- scverse As the Creator and Project Lead of Scanpy, Wolf led the joint Scanpy & anndata open-source software project from September 2016 to August 2019.12
Before their work at Helmholtz Zentrum München, Wolf was a PhD Candidate at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München from April 2013 to July 2015, and a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York from March 2015 to May 2015.12 They also worked as a PhD Candidate at Bosch Research from February 2012 to March 2013.12 Wolf's early career includes roles as a Research Associate at the University of Augsburg (October 2011 to January 2012), Visiting Student at École normale supérieure (September 2010 to January 2011), Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University (February 2010 to June 2010), and Student Researcher & Tutor at the University of Augsburg (February 2007 to January 2010).1
Wolf obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics (2006-2009) and a Master of Science in Physics (2009-2011) from the University of Augsburg.12 They earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2012-2013) and a Ph.D. in Computational Physics from Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München (2013-2015).1
