Alex Timm

Alex Timm is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Root Inc., a car insurance company he founded in March 2015.134 Timm's LinkedIn username is alex-timm-b2371a16.3 He aimed to revolutionize the outdated car insurance industry by using mobile technology and data science to offer personalized, fair rates based primarily on driving behavior rather than demographics.12 Root Insurance is known as the first insurance company built entirely for consumers.3

Before establishing Root, Timm worked at Nationwide Insurance in various management roles, including as a senior strategy consultant for the property and casualty lines of the business.1234 He has expertise in pricing and reserving, finance, and mergers and acquisitions.2

Timm obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Actuarial Science, Accounting, and Mathematics from Drake University.145 He is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.123 He also serves on the Board of Directors for GoHealth.134 In 2023, Timm was named an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow.14
