Alex Swarbrick
Principal Research Fellow & Laboratory Head, Garvan Institute of Medical Research
Alex Swarbrick is a prominent researcher focusing on cancer heterogeneity, with a keen interest in metastatic breast and prostate cancer as well as childhood cancer neuroblastoma. Alex uses cutting-edge techniques like single-cell multi-omics and preclinical disease models to uncover novel mechanisms in neoplastic transformation, metastatic progression, and the tumor microenvironment. Their work is directed towards developing innovative therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment. Alex completed a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New South Wales. They have held various key positions in prestigious organizations including being a Laboratory Head at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, a former NHMRC Senior Research Fellow at the National Health and Medical Research Council, an Associate Professor at UNSW, Co-Head of the Breast Translational Oncology Program at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre, Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW, Academic Editor at PloS One, and a Postdoctoral fellow at UCSF.
