Alex Chen

Alex Chen is a Software Engineer at Instacart, based in Surrey, Canada. He transitioned to this role after starting his career at Instacart as a Senior Revenue Accountant in 2015. His journey into software engineering began through Instacart's internal coding bootcamp, which allowed him to learn essential programming skills, including SQL and React, while working alongside engineers. This program, known as Carrot-U, provided him with the foundational knowledge and experience needed to shift from finance to engineering.13

In his current role, Alex is involved with the Catalog team at Instacart, where he contributes to the development and implementation of new technologies.2 He is also known for his enthusiasm for programming languages, particularly Lisp, and enjoys playing the electric piano in his spare time.2
