Alan Maitland
Alan Maitland is a well-known Canadian broadcaster, widely recognized for his contributions to CBC Radio. He was born in Toronto in 1924 and went on to attend the University of Toronto where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. Following his graduation, Maitland went on to pursue a career in broadcasting, a journey that would become his lifelong passion.
Alan spent several years working as a writer and producer for the CBC before making his debut as a host on the network's "As It Happens" program in 1973. Over the years, he became one of the most beloved voices on Canadian radio, serving as a host and narrator for a number of popular shows including "Sunday Morning," "Morningside," and "The Vinyl Cafe."
Throughout his career, Alan Maitland distinguished himself as a talented storyteller with a gift for bringing warmth and humanity to the airwaves. He was an advocate for cultural diversity and social justice, and his work helped to promote understanding and dialogue across Canada.
After retiring from broadcasting in 1992, Maitland continued to work as an ambassador for Canadian culture and values. In recognition of his many achievements and contributions to Canadian society, Alan Maitland was awarded the Order of Canada in 2005.
