Brackets For Good was a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that helped build awareness, raise funds, and expand marketing capabilities for local nonprofits through competitive, online fundraising tournaments.

Over the last several years our Fridays in March have been spent gathering around computer monitors watching competitive fundraising play out in real-time across the country. 

This year is very different as it comes with a heavy heart that we have decided to end the storied career of Brackets For Good. 

Helping raise awareness and funds for local nonprofits over the last seven years has been nothing short of a dream come true. The Brackets For Good team of staff and volunteers have collectively learned so much about the nonprofit sector, its use of technology, and ourselves, so rest assured the time spent pursuing this mission was nothing short of priceless. The entire Brackets For Good staff has successfully moved onto other opportunities and remains enamored with connecting people to charitable causes. 

We are so grateful for the support from all nonprofits, donors, and partners who above everything gave us the opportunity to pursue the unconventional idea of competitive fundraising for nonprofits and make a huge, $9.5M impact along the way. 

In particular, we’d like to share a personal thank you to the leadership team at Valeo Financial Advisors who selflessly invested in our vision in countless ways. Without wavering, they did this all for the benefit of helping people discover and participate in philanthropy.

In conclusion, we wish all nonprofit leaders the absolute best in achieving their missions. Although this journey has ended, we hope that Brackets For Good has helped you grow in a small way whether that be financially, reputationally, and/or operationally.

The text you just read wasn't just words on my website, but fuel that powered my decision to run for political office.

CAMPAIGN HISTORY...

Independent Party

When I entered the race officially I would have been listed on the ballot as an Independent. Ralph Nader had run for President in 2008 and his campaign had canvased to gain the signatures necessary to have the Independent party be officially recognized by the Maryland Board of Elections. When he lost and didn't run again in 2012, the Board of Elections did a tremendous disservice and injustice to the voters of Maryland. There was no prior notification that the party faced dissolving. Only after the timeframe had passed to have the party continue to exist did the Board send letters to registered Independent voters that the party was no longer recognized. My campaign continued from that point as "other" and meant I had to be a Write-In candidate. I invite you to ask me about my prior party and the potential paths I could have chosen and why I chose the one I did.

Redistricting

The two neighborhoods from District 10 that had the highest voter turnout (which also happened to have a large number of my supporters) were removed. They were replaced with less engaged neighborhoods. One had one of the lowest turnouts in the City. This forced me to refocus in a completely new neighborhood midway through my campaign.

I was able to run a campaign that excited the community. I received 15% of the vote. I forced the 20+ year incumbent VP of Baltimore's City Council to work.
