The core purpose of the Project Management Institute is to advance project management as a profession through the education, communication, and promotion of the principles of sound project management across all industries.  The Montana Chapter of PMI, founded in 2009, brought the community of PMI to Montana through it's main chapter in Helena and branch chapters throughout the state.In 2008, I was approached by Michael Goehring who was working to charter the first PMI chapter in Montana.  Through the hard work of Mike and other founding board members, the Montana chapter was a success and continues to thrive in Big Sky Country.  I had the pleasure of serving as the VP of Professional Development for the Montana Chapter where I developed PDU webinars and PM training to further the practice of sound project management methodologies.

Then Technical and Management Services Corporation (TAMSCO), the Polson, Montana Satellite Communications Division was started to provide telecommunications and network infrastructure design, engineering, and support to rural schools, libraries, and hospitals through USAC's E-Rate and Rural Health Care programs.In 2004 I was hired to bring systematic and repeatable project management processes to all stages of the product lifecycle.  In addition to "projectizing" the division, I was responsible and accountable for the coordinated management of multiple IT Infrastructure, telecommunications, and software development projects across North America for our rural healthcare and education clients.Key accomplishments in this role:► Led planning and execution of over $20 million in IT Integration projects.► Ensured all projects complied with SOX, HIPAA, and CIPA regulations through Project Management Governance.► Planned, proposed, and deployed the largest (at TCOMP) integrated iDirect/Cisco VoIP system in Alaska, cutting toll charges by 50% at 37 remote health clinics, saving $2M+ per year.In 2009, after the DRS Technologies purchase of TASMCO, I was sent as part of a "Tiger Team" to assist the rapidly growing International Division in the area of PMO development and project management. From 2001 to 2004, I worked with leading-edge tech companies in the greater Seattle area, providing professional services in network administration, database administration, project management, and business development.  The contract work was feast or famine after the tech bubble burst but was both challenging and rewarding.  I survived and learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses as a professional.One of the more interesting projects I was involved in was a deep-dive of the newly Microsoft-acquired Visio product (yes, Visio was its own company long ago...).  The work consisted of researching the reverse engineering tool to convert an Oracle 8i database to MS SQL 2000 using Visio .NET, the end product being a documented process and an internal Microsoft course.  Even though all of the tools behind the feature were well known, I felt like I was making an important discovery uncovering all of the details.Key achievements during this time:► Created the technical solution of a successfully-deployed project converting a large subscriber database from dBase to SQL for a Pulitzer Prize-winning News Corporation.► Rescued a high-profile Microsoft Partner company after cyber-attack, restoring services within hours, lowering attack surfaces, and providing comprehensive business continuity plan.► Consulted with various Microsoft product groups to create system documentation and Microsoft Learning and certification courses such as the MS Desktop Support Technician certification (MCDST).

Recruited to jump-start a stalled enterprise-wide Pivotal CRM with Service Desk ITSM system roll-out for CourtLink, the leading online docket and document research organization whose web-based product enables legal professionals to conduct thorough due diligence, monitor litigation that can impact legal practice, and identify new business opportunities from one intuitive location.When I started the CRM project, the two previous PMs had failed miserably, the project had already sunk a large investment into the solution, it had almost zero support from the functional managers, and the company was knee deep in a triple-merger.  Despite the challenges, the project was a success due in large part to the efforts of a couple key team members who worked tirelessly to deliver a quality product.  At completion we had merged all three company databases through secure data transfers and created a single sign on web solution that housed both CRM and Support data used company-wide by Sales and Marketing, Support, and Development.Key accomplishments on this project:► Reduced risk of post-acquisition integration through the successful merger of 3 disparate databases into one centralized Enterprise IT solution.► Safeguarded intellectual capital and client relationships by identifying and retaining top-performers and preventing defection during the merger of CourtLink, JusticeLink, and Marketspan.

The ASC Network, an e-business network with a focus on the Ambulatory Surgery market, partnered with many of the most respected companies in the medical industry such as Abbott Laboratories, B-Braun/McGaw, Becton-Dickinson, Henry Schein Medical, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly-Clark, 3M, and Medline Industries to provide its members the broadest selection of the highest quality products at group discount pricing. The development of The ASC Network reduced the cost of sales for the vendor partners by providing direct access to the ambulatory market and allowing the sales efforts to be increased for the high volume hospital market.I was hand-selected to help this venture capital funded company grow the customer base through the development of HIPAA-compliant IT systems for secure web-based medical supply fulfillment.  During my time at The ASC Network, I was responsible for the management of all IT systems and personnel.My accomplishments include:► Created the first e-commerce system exclusively for Ambulatory Surgery Centers, tripling revenue while cutting customer supply costs, replacing antiquated order-by-fax system.► Automated supply chain management and logistics systems creating zero inventory distribution center, cutting costs by 25% through strategic partnerships with Kimberly-Clark, United Postal Service, and Dell Computers.The ASC Network was part of XMLFund.  XMLFund was formed in 1999 by David Pool to foster the growth of promising companies that use XML technology. A pioneer in the Internet industry, Pool founded DataChannel in October 1996 to provide the first XML solution for building an Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) and to unleash the power of the enterprise, enabling the mapping of IT strategy with business objectives.

AT&T @Home, was an internet service provider started as a joint venture to produce high-speed cable Internet service through two-way television cable infrastructure.  At it’s peak, the @Home network provided high speed Internet service for 4.1 million subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, and the Benelux nations.As the primary field technician during the initial roll-out, my responsibilities included the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of multiple broadband IP and RF service systems across the DOCSIS network.
