As the head of DharmicData I am responsible for the whole value chain from building and leading the team to setting the strategy and selling. As the product owner for our Data and Analytic Platform and Personalization solutions, I define and prioritize the product details including data structures, algorithms, user interactions, ... 

Built the data science team from scratch up to 12 full-time employees. We have delivered projects to major Nordic media companies including publishers, broadcasters, marketing and yellow pages, telecom, .... Our Data and Analytics platform (Reatime Data Processing Pipeline and Personalization engine) enables us to deliver projects faster and more efficient, handling 250 events in realtime.

Moreover, I provided strategic advices to some of the major Nordic companies on how to create and implement their data strategy including the Media Diversity workgroup of the Norwegian government.

I joined Schibsted as the first data scientist (shortly after joining Finn, see below) and helped to shape the so-called Advanced Data Analytics group. My focus has been on design and development of personalization solutions such as user profiling, various recommender systems, data-driven experimentation and display advertising. Playing an end-to-end role, from changing the mindset and contributing to the strategy up to acting as product owner and data scientist, the result was to launch several MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) in short lean cycles in the period of few months using open source solutions with low development costs. We managed to lift up KPIs significantly. 

In summary, my focus was on design and implementation of

- Personalisation solutions (e.g., recommender systems) for Schibsted's local companies including news, ads, classifieds, tabloids, ecommerce,.
- Data-driven and Big data solutions to aid journalism (e.g., editorial tasks, storytelling,)
- Data science for display advertising (computational advertising)
- Group level data strategy
- Data Science lead on design of Media and Advertising Platforms

I joined Finn (dominant Norwegian classified) as a senior data scientist to kick off the work with massive amount of data they have and build data-driven solutions such as personalization, ad recommender systems, job ad retargeting, experimentation (A/B testing, ...). This was my first attempt to follow my dream of putting my academic research work in personalization, user behavioral modeling and recommender systems into practice, experience with a huge user base and validate the hypothesis in an industrial setting.

Though, after a short while, I joined the mother company, Schibsted, to have the chance to work with all sister companies including the largest news publishers in Norway and Sweden contributing to build the bigger data science group. See above :-).

Senior Data Scientist

My primary assignment for this Postdoc job (a 4-year contract as the combination of two 2-years contract) was European LinkedDesign Project:

This was a huge project focusing on context-driven access to information and knowledge, which was very relevant to the expertise I gained through my PhD work on context-awareness. I feel happy with this experience as it made me ready for the near futures:

"Seamless context transfer across devices will be the new big app feature," said Sravish Sridhar, founder and CEO of Kinvey. "Apps are increasingly becoming experiences that live across multiple endpoints — from wearables to phones, tablets, and web applications." 

I taught two Graduate level courses (Web Intelligence and Semantic Web) and supervised Master and Phd students as well.

Meanwhile, I started another project called "SmartMedia", which was development of a mobile app to aggregate news streams from several resources and present it to the user in a personalized manner. I contributed to the main engine and published two papers as the result (one WWW, http://goo.gl/cKZqxz). Moreover,  I organized and co-chaired the first International Workshop and Challenge on News Recommender Systems (https://sites.google.com/site/newsrec2013/home) in HongKong, which received good attention (around 50 percipients) and the proceeding published in ACM (http://goo.gl/TvfgDl). Besides, we cooperated with several Media companies in Norway, Sweden and Finland as the part of Nxtmedia network.

Then, I felt that I was missing something, i.e., a real product up and running, tangible results and opportunity of experimenting with large user base. So, I decided to leave academia for media industry, see above.
