Abua Ikem's academic journey includes studying at renowned institutions such as the University of Ibadan in Nigeria for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as completing a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management from the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK.

Throughout his career, Abua Ikem has held various roles at Lincoln University of Missouri, including Professor of Analytical Chemistry & Department Head in the Agriculture and Environmental Sciences department. He has also worked as an Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Laboratory Manager at the same institution. Prior to his time at Lincoln University, Abua Ikem gained experience as a Research Associate at Tuskegee University.
