Dr. Marisela De Leon Mancia is a well-versed senior Lecturer at Spelman College, with years of experience in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. She holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey, and an MS and PhD in Biochemistry from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Mancia's research interests comprise cancer research that blends separation science, natural products, and medicinal chemistry for the progress of cancer therapeutics. Her current collaboration focused on the characterization of the phytochemical profiles of various licorice root forms to identify novel reagents for prostate cancer therapeutics. Dr. Mancia has also supervised the undergraduate research of several students at Spelman and during the Faculty and Student Team research fellowship appointments at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, WA. Not only this, but she has also taught lecture/discussion and laboratory sections for various courses, including General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecules of Life, First Year Experience course sequence, and Undergraduate Seminar in Chemistry course. Additionally, Dr. Mancia holds a Certificate of Pastoral Theology and Master Catechist Jan 2016 from The University of Dallas.
