John Rafferty
John Rafferty, a former Lieutenant in the US Navy, is a seasoned litigation attorney at Gawthrop Greenwood, P.C., specializing in international human rights law. He obtained his Doctor of Law (J.D.) – International Human Rights from the Villanova University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – Philosophy and Religious Studies from Boston College.
Drawing on his diverse experience, John employs a client-centric approach to help people efficiently solve their legal issues. He emphasizes frequent and clear communication with clients, believing that it is crucial for successful representation. His passion for emerging legal issues, particularly blockchain and drone technology, has led him to author and teach continuing legal education classes in these areas.
In addition to his legal skills, John also leverages his expertise as a photographer and videographer to enhance his clients' persuasiveness in court. He has worked diligently in the past to address human trafficking as a legal and policy fellow with Polaris (formerly Polaris Project) and an Anti-Human Trafficking Intern at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). As a former Independence Foundation Fellow at Friends of Farmworkers, Inc. and Fulbright Fellow in Ecuador at the Fulbright Commission, John has deep experience working in diverse communities, understanding their complex needs and advocating for them in legal settings.
