Akhil Reddy is a Materials Engineering master's candidate at the University of British Columbia, specializing in the behavior of hydrogen in natural gas pipelines. His research involves permeation and stress corrosion cracking analysis. Akhil's passion for community-based project development shines through his work, including co-founding UBC Engineering's first peer support program and starting Light A Lamp, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving rural communities' infrastructure in his father's hometown in South India. He is knowledgeable and experienced in infrastructure project development, metallurgical failure analysis, materials testing, and computer simulation for manufacturing processes.
Akhil Reddy's extensive background in community development and sustainability includes his passion projects in rainwater harvesting, Light A Lamp Non-Profit, Engi-YOU Peer Support Program, and Chai Chats. He is the former Program Coordinator at Vancouver Green Drinks, Co-Founder & President of Light A Lamp Rural Development Society, former Co-Director of Engi-YOU Peer Support Program at Engineers Without Borders Canada, and has held various positions in UBC Sustaingineering, including Indigenous Engagement - Civil & Materials Team, Materials Engineering Student Designer - Challenger Design Team, and Electrical Team Researcher.
