James Calkins is an experienced patent attorney with a strong background in US and international licensing and litigation. He studied JD, LLM in Intellectual Property Law, and was in the top 10% at Franklin Pierce Law Center, now known as the University of New Hampshire School of Law. He also has a BS in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Michigan.

Calkins has held various senior positions throughout his career. He currently works as the Sr. Director, Legal Counsel at Qualcomm. In the past, he served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Head of North America Contracting, and AVP, Global Head of Emerging Market and Consumer Product Patents at Sanofi. He also worked as AVP, Business Development / Group Patent Counsel at Sanofi-aventis US, a Managing Member at Paterus Law Group, and Sr. Analyst at IPD Analytics. He has also served as an Associate at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and Law Clerk at The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
