James Aguayo-Martel, MD, MPH, FACS

Dr. James Aguayo-Martel, MD, MPH, FACS is a highly accomplished ophthalmologist, researcher, and academic with extensive experience in medical education, clinical practice, and innovative medical technologies. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Creative Writing at Stanford University and his Doctor of Medicine, Master of Public Health, and Residency in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and Surgery at the prestigious Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his fellowships at the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Aguayo-Martel has held numerous influential leadership roles throughout his career, including serving as the Director and Chief Medical Officer of Leading Medical Technologies, Inc., Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Department Chair of Ophthalmology at California Northstate University College of Medicine, and Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at California Northstate University College of Medicine. He was also the Chair of the Department of Surgery at Dignity Health and Chief of the ENT, Ophthalmology, and Plastics Section at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

In addition to his impressive leadership experience, Dr. Aguayo-Martel has contributed extensively to clinical research in ophthalmology and medical imaging, holding positions as Senior Research Associate at the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory at MIT and Fellow at the Martel Eye Research Center at Martel Eye Medical Group. He has also published widely in various medical journals and served as the Editor in Chief of New Frontiers in Ophthalmology.

Currently, Dr. Aguayo-Martel serves as the Director of Applies Medical Photonics and remains committed to advancing the field of ophthalmology through innovative medical technologies, research, and education.
