I was fully funded by the United States Embassy to attend this female leadership conference in Boston, MA for 2 weeks. During the program, we were educated at Harvard Univerity and Babson College, as well as learning from organisations including Converse, and presenting our action plans at the Massachusettes State House.

located in the heart of Bicester village, my role was to interact with high-end customers and help them with their gifting and on-demand requests as a seller. I was also responsible for the setting up and packing down at the beginning/end of the day, as well as handling of all the cash and card payments. I additionally assisted with the social media, and jointly filled the on-site manager role when the manager was not present.I routinely performed as the highest seller whilst on shift, adapting to bosses' requests to push the sale on certain items and upselling customers during their time with us. I used my skills in finance and maths to account for and corroborate daily financial reports, and applied my 'knack' in social media marketing to maintain a strong brand image and presence online during our seasonal pop-up. It was also critical to employ teamwork skills, working long, cold shifts in an often highly stressful and pressurised, luxury environment.

reached the regional finals of the Young Enterprise Competition 2017-2018Won 'Best Company' at both local and county heatsOur books take a traditional fairytale and rewrite them with a modern twist with the aim of reversing taught prejudices. These were a huge success, receiving endorsements from Stonewall, Peter Tatchell and Miriam Margolyes, among others, and sold across 4 countries, as well as featuring on BBC News. Before restructured as a social enterprise, the business formed part of a Young Enterprise Competition in which we ended up reaching the regional final, among other prizes. We are now a multi-award winning enterprise, available in 7 languages and in picture book, audiobook, and e-book version to increase access to as many people as possible.

During my week at IBM, I shadowed a Global CIO Partner, in the London Tribe working on internal facing products. I was responsible for developing test scripts to analyse the UX from a user perspective, and worked with the idea generation team to discuss potential features and problem fixes with relation to design.IBM operates under an agile environment, so I used my skills as a dynamic, collaborative member alongside my knowledge from agile training to fit in with the team practises. Being such a large multinational, it was also important to apply skills in patience and clear and concise messaging to get what you needed from who you needed, without wasting their time whilst taking consideration of different time zones and work cultures. At the end of the week, I delivered a presentation to the team, which required good presentation and delivery skills to execute an impactful, relevant talk.

My role incorporated both front of house sales, in which I consistently ranked as top seller, and assisting in the kitchen with cakes, pastries and bread, as well as controlling the stock room. I was responsible for the set up and clean down at either end of the day, and and responsible in assisting with shop layout and design to maximise sales.As one of my first jobs, it was formative in developing my selling skills as well as knowledge in appropriate behaviour in the workplace. It taught me a lot about thinking on the spot and being ready to adapt to situations, as well as - critically - how to handle criticism, which is something that I was not well versed at when I first started.

Over the course of the day, I rotated between each department of the bespoke web design company including the UX team, the backend team, the customer relations team and the business team. Within each department, I was tasked with adapting to the environment and successfully assisting in the project the whole office was working on.Since I worked in a whole host of departments, there was the opportunity to apply varying knowledge and skills, but one that applied uniformly was communication skills and being flexible. When working with a range of technical and non-technical departments, it is critical to be able to engage and communicate your thoughts in a way that is audience-conscious. Similarly, when you're moving around there is the need to be flexible in your approach to thinking and problem solving to suit the task in front of you. During this work experience I had the opportunity to apply my (at the time, limited) coding knowledge when dealing with the backend production, incorporate design thinking skills as both a consumer and a developer, and bring forth knowledge acquired from dealing with customers in part-time jobs to the customer-facing team.
