Catherine Edwards is an award-winning senior journalist and editor with extensive experience in building and growing engaged communities. She is currently the Europe Editor at The Local and covers issues that affect Europe's foreign residents, contributing to the company's 7 million monthly readers and 45,000 paying members. Catherine is also studying towards a PGCert in Journalism Innovation & Leadership, with a full scholarship from Google's Digital News Initiative in 2021.
Catherine's core competencies include editorial strategy, communications, copy-editing, digital media, editorial project management, membership/subscription, and growth strategy, audience engagement, social media management, SEO, and data analysis (Google Analytics, Excel). She is fluent in English and Swedish, has a working knowledge of German and Italian, and limited proficiency in French.
Catherine began her journey by studying 4 A* and 1 A level, along with an A* in Extended Project Qualification, at Sir John Deane's College, Northwich. She went on to study 10 A* and 1 A in GCSE at Lymm High School, Cheshire, before being awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Medieval & Modern Languages and Literature (German and Italian) with a 2.1 at the University of Oxford.
Before joining The Local as Assistant Editor, Catherine served as the Sweden Ambassador, Engaged Journalism Accelerator at European Journalism Centre (EJC). She has previously held positions as a College Mentor & Blog Editor at Summer Boarding Courses Ltd, PR & Marketing Intern at AKQA, Editorial Intern at The Local Europe AB, Junior Marketing and Events Co-ordinator (Goethe Zentrum) at Goethe Institut, English Language Teacher at Iseo Lake Language School, Journalism Intern at The Big Issue, and Journalism Intern (Manchester Evening News) at MEN Media.
