EECS 16A is an introductory electrical engineering course that focuses on linear algebra and circuit design fundamentals.

As a lab assistant, I assisted students in virtual lab sessions with projects that reinforce the course material:  a single pixel imaging system, a capacitive touch screen, and an acoustic-based positioning device. I taught students how to probe and debug their circuits as well as how to use Python linear algebra libraries to model their systems mathematically.

I worked with the Vedantham Lab at UCSF, which studies heart rhythm disorders. The lab is particularly focused on the development and function of pacemaker cells in the sinoatrial node. My project focused on image processing to quantify fluorescence signals in tissue sections of the sinoatrial node. The fluorescence analysis provided insights into how certain genetic enhancers control pacemaker cell function.

Undergraduate Student Researcher

I enhanced a market sizing model used by the Customer Support Business Group (CSBG) to forecast market opportunity for specialty devices in the IoT and automotive sectors. I also wrote VBA macros in Excel to automate the analysis in the model and created interactive dashboards in Qlik Sense for use by business executives to track market opportunity trends.

Power Device Modeling Intern

I worked with the Ackman Lab in the Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology department. The lab's broader goal was to understand how the different brain regions in young mice communicate with each other during the early stages of development. My specific role entailed writing Python programs to analyze correlations between neural activity patterns in different brain regions. I created an interactive visualization of a mouse brain, where users could click on certain regions, and the other regions would be colored based on how quickly they reacted to activity in the clicked region. Using this tool, researchers can detect anomalies in the communication patterns between brain regions, providing insights into the progression of diseases like schizophrenia and autism.

Neuroscience Research Intern

As part of UCSC's Science Internship Program (SIP), I spent ten weeks working with faculty at the Nanostructured Energy Conversion Technology and Research (NECTAR). I investigated how aluminum oxide layers could be used to tune the optical properties of indium phosphide nanowire structures. I submitted my paper to the 2017 Siemens Competition in Math, Science, and Technology, where I won a Semifinalist prize.
