Christos Kolias

Christos Kolias is a highly experienced computer networks expert with a Ph.D. in computer science from the prestigious University of California, Los Angeles. He is a co-initiator and founding member of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), which is an industry specification group that focuses on software virtualization and containerization of network functions. Apart from NFV, he is also an expert in Software-Defined Networking (SDN), OpenFlow, MPLS, ATM, and Internet traffic modelling and characterization.

Christos has extensive experience in network design, architecture, product management, performance evaluation, traffic engineering, quality of service, flow control, and TCP/IP network protocols. He is also an expert in queueing theory and applications, switch fabrics, and interconnection networks. He has worked in the industry for more than 15 years, including stints as system architect, principal modelling engineer, research scientist, and technical project manager.

He has worked with companies like Orange, Covad Communications, Google, and Caspian Networks in various roles that included network planner, engineer, international product management, and system architect. Throughout his career, he has authored or co-authored numerous reports and papers and given presentations at industry conferences.

Christos holds a B.Sc. in mathematics from the University of Athens, Department of Mathematics, and has been an adjunct and visiting faculty at numerous universities, including Stanford University, UCLA, USC, and Santa Clara University. He is interested in startup opportunities and is known for his expertise in Edge Computing, Private LTE, vRAN, vEPC, Network Slicing, IoT, and AI for Mobile Networks.
