Jose Bonafont is a highly motivated biotechnologist with a focus on gene and cell therapies for rare skin disorders. He has a Biotechnology degree from Universitat de València, an Ms in Biomedical Biotechnology from Universitat Politècnica de València, and a PhD in Biomedical Science and Technology with distinction from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

In his current role as a postdoctoral researcher at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, he is leading the development of new therapeutic strategies for gene therapy clinical trials using CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing and tissue engineering. Jose has experience in various genetic engineering and molecular biology techniques including AAVs, retroviral vectors, TALENs, electroporation platforms, Sanger sequencing and NGS, RT-PCR, and ddPCR. He has formerly been a visiting student researcher at Stanford University, a teacher assistant and supervisor of a degree’s final project in the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, respectively.

Jose is interested in translational medicine and clinical trials for gene therapy, and he has conducted his final degree project in the Clinical and Translational Oncology Research Unit at Hospital La Fe de Valencia. He has previously worked as an intern in Servicio de Protección Radiológica at Hospital La Fe de Valencia, and Unidad Mixta de Reparación Cardiovascular at Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF), and as an internship student at Bionos Biotech S.L.
