Charles Shyng, a Principal Scientist at Pfizer's BioMedicine Design unit, has made significant strides in developing AAV gene therapy programs to treat lysosomal storage disorders. With extensive experience in academia and industry, Dr. Shyng has made significant contributions to capsid discovery, evaluation, and AAV production for in vivo and capsid studies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology - Neuroscience and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. He started his career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Washington University School of Medicine and moved on to work as a Research Technician at the same institute. Dr. Shyng also worked as a T32 Postdoctoral Research Trainee at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and as a Scientific Consultant at Ostrea Bio, Inc before joining Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit as the Principal Scientist. He later moved to his current role in the BioMedicine Design unit, continuing to pursue his passion for developing AAV gene therapy. Dr. Shyng is open to new opportunities and is willing to relocate to further his work in the lysosomal storage disorder space.
