Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager:
I was accountable for the design and operations of critical elements of Cambia's evolving technology platform, built to foster innovative consumer health engagement products.

I was responsible for building, supporting, and growing a distributed team of software engineers delivering a broad portfolio of operationally-critical services including: identity and access control, privacy, and events distribution.

Highlighted Achievements:
-  Innovated processes for hiring to grow the size of candidate pools resulting in a more than three-fold improvement in the observable diversity of candidates, leading directly to increased diversity of hires
-  Coached and mentored up to a dozen individuals at any given time
-  Established vision and objectives and key results (OKRs) and technically supported product management in development of the cloud-native software platform into a product
-  Founded DEI working group with a cadre of others, securing sponsorship from executive leadership to drive improvements to working culture and better support all employees

Currently working as technical product owner for an enterprise software project collaborating with external vendors, a half dozen internal partner teams, and enterprise architects to modernize identity, authentication, and access control responsibilities covering millions of people from a blend of legacy systems in addition to my responsibilities in taking care of people.

-  Hired and onboarded a 8 professionals to form a platform services team ranging in experience from interns to staff engineers and recruited more into related teams
-  Repackaged existing job descriptions as a career ladder to provide structured and transparent guide for engineers to set goals and to support their career growth and advancement
-  Fostered a standard of excellence, positioning the team as a standards-bearer and putting them at the vanguard of new technologies and process experiments within the company
-  Provided training in agile methodologies and sponsored process experiments supporting continuous improvement, leading to refinements which were adopted by other teams

-  Provided technical leadership for development of a platform architecture based on distributed services supporting well over 100 services providing value for tens of millions of health care consumers

Accountable for the implementation and operation of Healthsparq's flagship provider search experience as well as authentication and identity. I am responsible for on-boarding, supporting, and growing two teams of software engineers and interns.

-  Planned and delivered complex new features which cut across leadership boundaries in first 60 days to meet contractual obligations leveraging only indirect influence
-  Led tiger team in performance optimization effort to improve user experience and meet new SLAs.
-  Introduced process refinements and differing perspectives to colleagues in engineering leadership which led to lasting changes in agile practices, improving team productivity and reducing one 3 year backlog to 8 months.
-  Coordinated transformational change to re-imagine localization, feature flags, and client configuration capabilities, ultimately resulting in 64% reduction in client implementation effort.
-  Rebooted existing work ceremonies by providing fresh training and peer support to restore trust and re-engage developers, improving talent retention and productivity
