Washington State University's Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine welcomed Dr. Joshua Jacobs as its inaugural Professor and Chair for the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences. As an accomplished physician executive, educator, researcher, and change agent, Dr. Jacobs has made a significant impact in his field. He has 17 years of experience in academic, clinical, and administrative roles in medical schools in the USA, Japan, and Singapore. Before joining the university, he led national initiatives as a Senior Director at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dr. Jacobs has extensive experience in leadership, strategic business planning, medical education and training, technology in healthcare, quality improvement, and patient safety.

Dr. Jacobs played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences at Washington State University's Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. The department is the academic home for nearly 1000 faculty members from all clinical specialties, delivering all courses leading to the MD degree and graduate certificate in Leadership, graduate medical education, as well as clinical service and research in the College across the state of Washington. He successfully led the team to establish the department, including many operational aspects of the MD program leading to successful LCME accreditation.

Education has been a crucial aspect of Dr. Jacobs's work. He studied Medicine, Family Medicine and Medical Education at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, where he gained valuable experience in patient care, teaching, and research. Dr. Jacobs also studied Telecommunications Information Resource Management and Psychology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Pomona College, respectively. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a testament to his expertise and experience in the field.

At Washington State University's Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in his role as Chair of the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences, Dr. Jacobs has created new organizational systems and approaches to empower physicians, administrators, researchers, students, and staff to thrive and succeed. His expertise and experience are invaluable assets to the College and the healthcare community at large.
