When the logical replication by using pglogical with PostgreSQL v9.6 seemed to fail from time to time I did advise the customer to migrate the 7 production databases with a minimal outage to PostgreSQL v10.After the migration the usage of PostgreSQL v10 build-in logical replication was way more stable and much easier to maintain.Outage of the business was less than 30 minutes outside office hours in Toronta - basically the business could run seemless due to the HA implementation of the core databases for the frontend. After migration the shop even run faster because of the better performance of PostgreSQL v10.

During the last two months I teached, together with Joris Gresnigt, two classes of BIM  (Business IT & Management) students at the Hogeschool Utrecht. Both of us enjoyed the enthousiasme of the students and their eager to learn BI principles and techniques to construct, design, and manage a Datawarehouse environment. During the lessons we walked through the life cycle of a DWH gaining data from different source systems (flat file, EXCEL data, PostgreSQL databases), applying ETL processes by using Pentaho Spoon to build a stable platform on a PostgreSQL DWH.  After designing a staging database area and the core database, the construction of several star schema's / snowflake schema's data marts was closing up the DWH. From those data marts several reports has to be designed by using Microsoft PowerBI.As Co-Teacher for the BIM Business Intelligence course was asked to present an additional guest course for the HU IT students about "Relational Database Management Systems compared to noSQL DBMS" completed by a short intro about Cloud database management.

Database migration PostgreSQL v9.1 to v11 using SlonyAsked by Geotrack Telematics how to migrate more than 5TB of PostgreSQL v9.1 to a more recent version with a minimum of outage I did advise using Slony.After presenting a Proof-of-Concept using a live test environment (Oracle Virtual Box, CentOS v6 + PostgreSQL v9.1 (Master) ~ 800GB of data,  CentOS v8 + PostgreSQL v11 (Slave) Geotrack asked me to assist to migrate their production environment holding more than 5 TB of PostgreSQL data and having more than 500 transactions per second for 24x7.In February 2019 we build a Slony replication script to assign all tables, primary keys, and sequences between the two nodes on a fast Pure Store data storage. This replication schema was able to replicate all transaction with a maximum lag time of about 25 seconds. After stopping the Slony listeners, and dropping the Slony schema object, the SLAVE environment was used adjust the database structures to an optimal PostgreSQL v11 performance and to cleanse all data that was no longer needed.In June 2019, the whole replication set was rebuild using the new structure. After setting up the replication using Slony the SLAVE and after running in sync for a couple of days the production environment was stopped for a brief moment, the web front was assigned to the PostgreSQL v11 database and with a minimum downtime the whole production database was migrated to the newest version of PostgreSQL.

After conversion of the other health systems I was asked by the HIX project manager to preserve the quality of the data conversion of some health systems that were closely related to the EPD. Alongside with the data conversion of systems like RVC - Clinical Assistant (CA) I was responsible for the correct mapping of CA study types to HIX treatment codes through all departments of the hospital.For the Cardiology department systems like MUSE and ImageVault has to be converted to different health systems. The conversion of MUSE ECG-reports to CardioPerfect ECG-reports and the MUSE ENDEVOR-reports to Clinical Assistant reports involved technical data conversion. For this I designed and coded several conversion scripts using Windows batch and powershell technology.On November 3rd, 2018, the HIX conversion was successfully completed. After finishing the last conversion reports I left Isala IT department in December 2018.

When the St. Antonius Ziekenhuis (Hospital) completed the transition from their custom build EPD IntraZis to EPIC healthcare in October 2017 some systems remained on their original MySQL database server. One of these environments was the Business Intelligent store on a MySQL v5.1 database holding 1TB of data. While the CentOS v6 database server was running for more than 3 years in a row it became critical for the organisation to convert the AI/BI database environment to a modern release.The BI data was not changed quite much while most of the former sources systems were converted to EPIC. A few minor data changes were initiated by the servicedesk progress reporting. Together with the BI manager I decided to transfer the data from the MySQL database to a new Microsoft SQL Server 2016 database server. By doing this the data will still be available for business analyse processes using the reports of the BI-tool Pentaho.During several sessions, using tools like Microsoft SSMA (SQL Server MySQL Migration Assistant), ODBC linked server and MySQL Workbench I was able to migrate all data from the original source to the new created SQL Server databases.

Isala hospitals implemented in November 2018 a new EPD (Electronic Patient Dossier) - Chipsoft HIX. The former EPD - EriDanos, a custom made IT system to Isala, is transformed during a large implementation project. As preparation to the EPD conversion more than 30 different medical systems has to be harmonized after the  merge of Diaconesse Ziekenhuis (Meppel) en Isala (Zwolle). The project for this conversion was named HOZA (Harmonisatie Overige Zorg-applicaties =: Harmonization Other Health application) – covering the set of health IT systems holding patient data alongside the central EPD system. While all these systems holding critical data is was very important to guard the procedures and processes during conversion. I was responsible for defining and describe a solid procedure for an integer and a firm data conversion process between those systems. Internal and external providers has to follow up the conversion procedure while I was responsible for controlling and verifying the different data stages and accepting the result.To maintain a well-documented report I designed a verification and qualification form that had to be signed off by all primary stakeholders. Systems that were processed cover several departments of the hospital like Cardiology, Diagnostic imaging, Gastroenterology, and hospital laboratory.

After decharge of the merging process between Isala Klinieken (Zwolle) and Diaconessenhuis (Meppel) - the HSA programma - a few small tasks still remains. Due to legal requirements, all financial data has to be archived and available for at least 7 years. All personal data of HRM systems has to be archived and available for at least 3 year, up to 41 years. All the task covering these archiving requirements are wrapped up in one single project. As project leader and senior data consultant I have to set up a team, write a business plan, get this plan confirmed by the organization and implement the archives.While some of the systems will remain using the former application software and system configuration, some of the application systems has to be transformed to a online archive holding all data in a reliable and stable state. This data must be accessible by authorized personal only.Target of this project was to be concluded before the summer of 2017 - but nevertheless this was wishful thinking. While the licences for the existing application software were continued by the application owner the organisation had a slim motivation to migrate the data to the archive database environment. Therefore, in conjunction with the project owner, I postponed the project until the end of 2018.The central database environment remains as fully designed on paper, the export/import procedures are handed over to the DBA staff. The organisation will be able to pick up the project whenever ready to dismantle the current applications when migrating the data to be archived.

The two hospitals Isala (Zwolle) and Diaconessenhuis (Meppel) joining forces and merging into one organization.This program excellerated the workforces of two organizations. On Januari 1st, 2017 the merging process successfully reached it final stage and legal state.Starting in 2015 the major merging program HSA (Harmonisatie Staf Applicaties) is formed to help forging one agile hospital organization. First of all the staff departments will merged by synchronize more than 80 application systems for Human Resource, Invoice, Technical Medical Services, Training, Sales department and Quality Governance. As Data Conversion Specialist for non-SAP applications (DCS-nonSAP) I work closely together with Henk Westdorp (DCS SAP applications), the program manager, a team of four project leaders and other project staff members to support the two organizations by building a strong and smooth merging platform.January 1st 2017 is set to be the final deadline for the legal fusion. To hold this milestone we developed a set of standard application migration checks, workshops and project processes. Communication with staff members of both organizations and strict time schedules used to control the huge task we signed up for.With compliments to the members departments of both hospitals and special thanks to the IT departments, we manage to keep our schedule up to 4thQ2016. The final stage of merging HRM and Financial data is reached.On January 2nd, 2017 the board of stakeholders declared the merging successfully. Wrapping up the last tasks like archiving source data, regrouping user authorizations and completing user request we are entering the last project phase of discharge.

Supporting the DBA and ICT department of St. Antonius Hospital (Utrecht / Nieuwegein) we manged to migrate the EPD (Electronic Patient Dossier) high available database environment from MySQL v5.1 to MySQL v5.5 in one smooth process with a minimum of less than 15 minutes downtime.Alongside the migrating to the new database version we upgraded the OS to the newest Debian GA version v8.3 (jessie). The new database environment is a high end and high available MySQL DBMS cluster, spread along two sites using a Master-2-Master replication and several Master-2-Slave configurations. The new database environment is the base of the custom made EPD system IntraZIS of the St. Antonius Hospital.

I rejoined Isala in 2015, asked by the IT management, to boost the migration of out-dated Windows- and SQL Server instances. Isala defined consolidation of all production servers as a primary goal of the patient care IT environment. Responsible to archive this goal while day to day business may not be interfered, I set up six small project teams. Together with to the passionate team members I was able to migrate more than 12 different applications from SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 to SQL Server 2012 / Windows Server 2012 R2. We now preparing the migration of large scaled health-business environments like Chipsoft CS-EZIS and RVC Clinical Assistant. Both projects are planned to be finished in Q4 2015.

As leading DBA I was able to migrate the production environment of Inshared from PostgreSQL v9.0 to a high available backend configuration using PostgreSQL v9.3 in a private cloud.By separating the document store of customer communication from daily business processing, the throughput of data is maximized. The technical environment consists of a HA fail-over cluster using PostgreSQL streaming replication as Hot Standby. Implementing a Slony asynchronous replication to a third Slave node ensures the configuration of a high end management information system. Connection pooling is established by use of pgpool-II to deliver a high performance environment regardless the pressure at the forefront office.

As a project leader I am responsible to keep the migration project improving the SQL Server database backend. As a senior member of the DBA team I'm asked to coordinate the daily DB support tasks and the IT project demands of the 4 DBA's. The SQL Server 2008 R2 migration project is incorporated into the IT organization. Competing with other, recent started IT projects, an internal project leader was demanded.I'm participating the project as a SQL Server DBA  for at least 20 hours a week, supporting and assisting the organization to migrate the SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2000 database servers to SQL Server 2008 R2.At the start of September 2013 I was asked to start a project to migrate the EPD (Electronic Patient Dossier) - currently running on Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2005 - to a new hardware cluster using Windows 2008R2 and SQL Server 2008R2 in a HA configuration across the two different data centers of ISALA. This system is the backbone of day-2-day processing of the hospital. The data stored in the core database is the primary source of patient information used by more than 4.500 connected users.By dividing the project into three main stages, I was able to limit the risks and the outage during the migration steps to bearable proportions.-	Stage-1 : Migrate to new hardware by using MS SQL Server mirroring-	Stage-2 : Migrate to SQL Server 2008R2-	Stage-3 : Full HA Cluster across the two data center implementing managed fail overAt the end of November 2013 the first stage, migrating to a new hardware on a Windows 2008R2 cluster, is successfully implemented. After running without any problem on the Windows 2008R2 Cluster with SQL Server 2005 we successfully migrated the Electronic Patient Dossier to SQL Server 2008R2 on Sunday, February 16th. As a project leader I'm proud to have such a professional team. We were able to accomplish the major migration with an outage of just a few minutes for the primary hospital systems.
