I developed sophisticated attacks (misbehaviors) on connected vehicles that would circumvent any form of currently (2017) available plausibility checks. I also developed detection techniques that would push an attacker to an extent where he is no longer a threat.All of my attacks and defenses were implemented on VEINS (<a href="http://veins.car2x.org/">http://veins.car2x.org/</a>), the VANET simulator.

Automotive Research Intern

In-Vehicle network in a modern automobile connects over 70 Electronic Control Units (ECU), some of them connected to outside world through the Internet. An automobile is susceptible to cyber-attacks same as a desktop or laptop computer. Research at the lab involved developing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to thwart attacks on the In-Vehicle network, mainly Controller Area Network (CAN).Responsibilities:- Designed CAN message (11 bit and 29 bit) for communication between different PIC 16 micro controllers- Write low level device drivers for inter-IC communication through CAN, I2C, and SPIImplement drivers for interfacing PIC micro controller with Microchip CAN controllers- Prepare experiment design and test documents- Develop test plans for testing vulnerabilities in CAN communication- Set up equipment to perform experiments- Implement CAN testing platform in Python (Socket Programming, Object Oriented Programming)- Research literature published on automotive cyber security- Write and Publish research papers on automotive security in IEEE conferences and journalsEnvironment: CAN bus, PIC16 micro controller, Python, C/C++, Electronic workbench, Git, MPLAB

Reliable and Secure VLSI Systems Laboratory

Research Assistant

Teaching Assistant for Digital Design using Programmable Logic (ECE 583) and Computer Organization (ECE 562) for 3 semesters at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNH. Provided expert guidance concurrently to at least 15 student projects on Embedded Systems based on PSoC 4 boards and C programming. Taught x86, ARM, and MIPS processor architecture, Instruction Fetch, Decode, Memory Read/Write, Execution cycles in hands-on lab sessions.Responsibilities:- Lead hands-on labs on Verilog, assembly, FPGA, and embedded C programming using PSoC boards- Provide assistance to numerous Embedded Systems student projects concurrently- Test, update, and maintain hardware (Embedded boards) and software (assembly, C, Verilog) for lab sessions- Maintain timely publishing of assignments to help manage a class of 50 students- Solve academic issues of students in office hours- Detailed evaluations of submissions and escalations in cases of plagiarismEnvironment: KEIL, Eclipse CDT, Xilinx Nexys 3, PSoC 4, Verilog, Assembly language (MIPS), Electronic workbench
