Tom Hsieh is a skilled synthetic and medicinal chemist with a notable track record of scientific achievements. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has filled several international patents. Additionally, Tom is an accomplished educator, committed to educational equity and innovation. He is an expert in organic, inorganic, and medicinal chemistry, including transition metal catalysis, multi-step synthesis, and phosphorus-containing polymers and applications.

Tom obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry Honours, with a Co-op program and a minor in Commerce from The University of British Columbia. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Toronto, where he worked in the Dong Research Group. He has also held several positions at other research institutions, such as the Gates Research Group and adMare BioInnovations.

Throughout his career, Tom has also held several teaching positions. He has worked as a tutorial teaching assistant, organic chemistry teaching assistant and senior residence don at the University of Toronto, where he mentored and motivated academically and culturally diverse groups of students. He has also been involved in various youth leadership and mentorship programs.
